We popped along to Roxejam 2012 in Sevenoaks Park today, to record some footage and a couple of interviews for the documentary. It was a glorious day. Dave filmed, and I took some snaps. There are a load of photos on Flickr – click this link or the image below to go see them all.
Wrote a whole blog post then accidentally deleted the whole thing linking to this short film I made last weekend. Oh well.
We have our first proper full day of filming interviews tomorrow, which I am SUPER excited about. It means a ridiculously early start meeting Lisa Derrick in Bute Park, as she is our first interview and being a keen runner, we’re going to capture her in her natural habitat (a Cardiff park at stupid o’clock in the morning!)
We also have a bit of a crew – me, driving and troubleshooting, Shane, sound man, Dave, pictures man, Pascalle, running (yay for our runner!), and Adam Chard, photographer extraordinaire.
The film I accidentally posted was this, which I made on my travels around cultural institutions of Cardiff last weekend. This won’t be in the final documentary, as I think we’ll be doing something else with Catapult later in the year (possibly in conjunction with Spillers, and also with Swn festival).
Anyway. For the drum and bass heads out there, enjoy it!
We’re very happy for you guys to meet Dangerous Doug – the film collective who will be making the We Are Cardiff documentary! They have written a guest post for us below. Enjoy xxx
Dangerous Doug is a collective of like minded film makers, based in Cardiff. We have between us a wealth of experience in the film and TV industries and as a collective we have been making mainly music videos for local bands over the past five years. We have filmedSibrydion, The School, Spencer McGarry Season, the prolific Pagan Wanderer Lu and our proudest moment so far KUTOSIS, to name but a few.
We first became aware of the “We Are Cardiff” project sometime last year and thought it would make a great film. A few months later and we find ourselves on board helping to make the film happen. We’re very excited to be working on such a project as we are all now Cardiffians ourselves, ranging from lifers to people that were wooed to the city to set up new lives here. We love Cardiff for our own reasons and hope to find out more about parts of Cardiff we never new existed from those who also live here.
The We Are Cardiff film is in it’s early days of production which is moving along nicely. I think this bodes well for an exciting, informative and entertaining journey. We hope to successfully translate all of that to the film itself.
I posted a little while ago that we were looking for theme music for the documentary. Well, we still sort of are. BUT what we really need right now is Cardiff bands and artists (or bands and artists with links to Cardiff) to send us music that we can use license free in the final project.
I know it sucks. I really wish we could pay everyone a shitload of cash. But we’re running the project on a shoestring. And we’re pretty certain that the end product is going to be a super duper lovely film that will get a load of coverage at film festivals around the world next year! And that’s pretty good exposure for your music, no??
If the film ends up making a load of cash, we’ll be paying everyone who has volunteered time or skills in the first place. It’s only right and fair. We’re not about making a massive profit. We just want to make enough to cover costs and get the thing out there. That’s the most important thing!
SO – ARE YOU A CARDIFF BAND OR ARTIST WHO WANTS A SHEDLOAD OF EXPOSURE??? Send us music that we can use license-free in our film. You’ll be hitting a massive audience who might never get to hear your music.
Email us on hackflashflash at gmail dot com, and send us your ditties. We want to hear them! There’s no deadline for this, so we’ll keep posting the link til we’ve got enough music.
(be aware – if you’re a signed band, you’ll definitely have to check with your record label or management that they are happy for you to do this … we don’t want any legal battles!)
We run a website called We Are Cardiff. We invite residents of Cardiff to write about real experiences of living in the city, to provide a lively and more accurate version of the city that we live in than what you’d read in the local papers.
Recently we decided we’d like to take the project to the next level. We want to make We Are Cardiff – the movie!
We’re raising funds for a documentary that will be a more realistic (and we’re hoping) loving ode to the city we live in than the things you might see elsewhere.
We were posting updates on the We Are Cardiff page, but rather than clog it up with a load of nonsense, we’ve set up this blog to keep you updated on the project.
